MISS PHYLLIS LETT
CONCERT ON MONDAY At the Town Hall on Monday evening next. Miss Phyllis Lett will continue her series of concerts under the direction of Mr. E. J. Gravestock. The famous English singer made a remarkable impression at her first concert on Thursday night, creating a wonderful atmosphere of enthusiasm. Miss Lett has a beautiful voice of wide range and delightful quality. There are many moments when the purity of her contralto colouring glows with congenial warmth, and behind the singing tone is an illuminating intelligence that makes every word carry its full meaning. Supporting the distinguished singer, is a trio of fine artists who all scored heavily in their respective departments. Miss Margot Macgibbon, the young violinist, Mr. Norman Bennet, a fine tenor, and Mr. Maurice Besly, the talented composerpianist, with Miss Lett make up one of the best concert parties heard in Auckland for a long time. On Monday night another excellent programme will be given, Miss Lett’s numbers including Bizet’s great song, “Agnes Dei,” with organ, violin and piano: Brahm’s “Sapphische Ode”; “J’ai pleure en reve" (Hue); “Le Chanson du Tambourineur” (Old French); “1 love the jocund dance” (Davies); “The Lament of Isis” (Granville Bantock); “Leaves and the Wind” (Leoni); “Love me if I live” (Cowen), and “Three Fishers” (Hullah). The box plan is at Lewis R. Eady’s, and the day sale tickets at H.M. Theatre Arcade Sweet Store. Miss Lett and her party will give a concert at the Theatre Royal, Hamilton, on Tuesday evening next.
