FAMOUS TWINS
LONG STAGE CAREER DEATH DISSOLVES PARTNERSHIP With the passing of one of the famous Terry Twins, the British musichalls have lost an immensely popular double act that stood the test of nearly 30 years. Charles Terry has died at Newcastle from pneumonia at the age of 42. He caught influenza in Birmingham the previous week, but was well enough to do his first three shows at Newcastle. The act of the Terry Twins always had a peculiar attraction, because of their extraordinary physical resemblance. One could not tell who was Frank and who was Charlie. They were of identical height, barely five feet, and entirely without distinguishing marks. “I have no idea what I am going to do now,” Frank confessed. “I may quit the business altogether, as it will be impossible for me to get another partner for the same act. We entered vaudeville together when we were 14, and at that time were in the same show as Charlie Chaplin—‘Casey’s Court.’ Twenty-six years ago we started on our own.” The most familiar trick of the famous twins was to pretend that the one was the reflection of the other seen in a mirror, and to carry on a simultaneous pantomime, which was remarkably adroit.
