TROTTING

Plentifully Engaged Roamer claims three engagements on Saturday at Thames and whichever event he starts in he will receive plenty of support. About Andover

Andover, engaged in the Hikutaia Handicap to-morrow, went a fair race when he ran in the Waitoa Handicap at Te Aroha. Andover is by Hova from Agnes McKinney, and is trained by W. Willetts at Cambridge.

A Thames Possibility It will not be surprising to see Araroa carry good support in the Hikutaia Handicap at Thames, as this Mangere-trained maiden candidate is said to be of good class and has been performing well on the training tracks. Araroa looked in first-class order when shipped on Wednesday night. Mangere Loyal to Gaza Gaza has not proved that he is anything better than moderate, but a number of enthusiasts out Mangere way are of the opinion that Gaza should make a showing in the Turua Handicap at Thames. In that event the class engaged is poor, and Gaza would not have to be a champion to salute the judge.

Sean Truibhais Improving Since getting his name on the winning list, for the first time, at Te Aroha, Sean Triubhais has improved considerably. Whatever race Sean Truibhais steps out in he is always entitled to a lot of respect, for his latest performances show him up as being: more than useful. His Limit

In two-mile trotting events Red Dennis has failed to see out the distance, and on that account cannot be classed as a genuine stayer. Red Dennis is speedy over a mile and a-half and can be ticked off to bob up one of these days in a race over that distance.

About Moko Chief r,uT h . 0 ? gh possessing speed, Moko Chief is inclined to be erratic and had he behaved in a decent manner in some of his previous races a win would have gone his way. The country meetings should see Moko Chief equal to performing satisfactorily, though many of his old admirers will hardly be inclined to wager on his chances. Those Jazzy Ones A previous? winner at the Thames in Molly Park has been working well at Alexandra Park in view of her engagement in the Parawai Handicap. Molly Park is like a number of others engaged, very fond of introducing a few jazz steps and mixing her gait when chasing the money. Molly Park has; only to produce track form to be very dangerous.

May not Buzz There was some money for Buz Buz at the Waikato meeting, but she failed to materialise, although in ,the limelight on each occasion. Buz Buz has her chance in the Thames Cup, but; should she salute the judge something: like a solid dividend may be attached, to her victory.

Taipare’s Chances Taipare was very sore after competing at the Waikato meeting, and was a trifle lame when he was shipped to the Taranaki fixture, despite which he notched third place in a mile and a-quarter event. Should Taipare strip in sound order on Saturday in the Kopu Handicap, he may be seen in a more favourable light, though he has a very tough opponent in Great Peter. A Bright Future All eyes will be centred on Great Peter should he be seen in action at Thames. The full-brother to the illustrious Great Bingen has stamped himself as a good three-year-old, and with two victories down to his credit so early in his career, it may not be wrong to suggest that as he matures Great Peter will follow in his champion brother’s footsteps, and become one of pur star performers. Cup Candidate’s Prospects Nelson Tasker’s name has barely been mentioned in connection with the Thames Cup. Trained at Henderson, the entire is usually kept moving along, and nearly every time he is asked to carry silk strips well. Nelson Tasker has; won nicely over mile and a-quarter distances, but has yet to prove he is capable of running a strong two miles. If Nelson Tasker does not find the distance too far, he should make a bold showing in the Cup, although the chances are that the son of Nelson Bingen will be knocking over the concluding stages of the race. Much-Fancied Horses If Tony Victor and Great Peter are started to-morrow one at present can only conjecture just how much money they will carry. two pacers will be the hottest favourites on the day, and should they fail punters will receive a severe knock.

All Races Left-Handed The events at Thames will be run the left-handed way round, and better racing on the Parawai course should result. Luvan a Non-starter.

Luvan has contracted a cold, and will not be a starter at Thames tomorrow. The Australian-bred mare’s absence will necessitate punters looking elsewhere for one to run a good race, for had Luvan started she would have gone out a good favourite.

TO-MORROW’S CONTESTS

RACING AT THAMES THE FIELDS REVIEWED The Thames Trotting Club’s annual meeting will be held on the Parawai .racecourse at Thames to-morrow, and some good racing should be witnessed. The course is said to be in capital order, and as many improvements have been effected since last year’s meeting despite the recent heavy rainfall some fair times should be registered. The acceptances received are numerically good, and though one or two events contain an unknown quantity of both pacers and trotters, the other races have several useful performers booked to compete. With suitable steamer and train arrangements, a good gathering of visitors may be expected. The day’s sport will commence with the

HIKUTAIA HANDICAP, Of £100; 3.43£ class; 15 miles. Charm. Pronto Lt. Red Dennis . . Lt. Araroa Lt. Little Gold . . Lt. Ben Zolock . . Lt. Dolly Thorpe . Lt. Gold Circle . . Lt. Teddy Ansel . . Lt. Carnui Lt. Lola Recklaw . Lt. Golden Gratton Lt. Andover .... Lt. Great Audo . . Lt. Yds. beh. jingle Mint . . Lt. Ansel Bell . .24 Velvet Wood . Lt. Leewood .... 36 Boada’s Child . Lt. Anseline .... 36 Sixteen of the nineteen figuring on the card are on the limit, which will mean lining them up in two rows. Included in the field of pacers is the trotter Anseline, and if she can be encouraged to leave the mark well would have a chance. Lola Jtecklaw, from Whangarei, has a turn of speed, and with Andover may prove the hardest to dispose of. With so many performers not known to the majority of patrons a surprise may eventuate. The following event for trotters is the PARAWAI HANDICAP, Of £100; 3.52 class; 15 miles. Albert’s Bell . Lt. Topsy RothsLochade .... Lt. child .... Lt. Lady Ena . . . Lt. Paradiam . . . Lt. Molly Park . . Lt. Yds. beh. Merrimax . . . Lt. Roez 12 Wild Downs . . Lt. Ohapi 36 Timbell . . . . Lt. Col. Thorpe . . 36 Oliver Thorpe Lt. Red Dennis . . 72 Sydney Bell . . Lt. Like the preceding event, a moderate lot claim engagement. There are a number down to compete who have the necessary speed, but possessing erratic tendencies. Still, there are one or two who should be able to make a mistake or two and then not be counted out. Roez will most likely go out favourite, ahd should she do it correctly would be a hard proposition. Serious opposition may come from Colonel Thorpe and Lady Ena. Another mile and a-half handicap follows. This is the TURUA HANDICAP, Of £110; 3.39 class; 1J miles. Charm Pronto Lt. Boada’s Child Lt Lady Barring- Lola Recklaw . Lt. ton . . . . Lt. Yds. beh. Golden Park . . Lt. Dealer 12 Moko Chief . . Lt. Hohora 12 Fungus .... Lt. Sidelight .... 12 Leewood . . . Lt. Ekoerahei ... 12 Peter Grattan Lt. Speed King . . 24 Single Mint . . Lt. Admiral Hood 36 Velvet Wood . Lt. Roamer ... 48 Andover . . . Lt. Gold Cast . . 60 Gaza Lt. Twenty-one are engaged, several of whom may start in the flrst event. When Dealer won so convincingly at Taranaki, he impressed in no mean degree, and he should in this event be one of those in it at t;he finish. Peter Grattan, on recent form, looks a likely one, while Gaza (who is trained at Mangere) has a reputation. The three pacers referred to may be the ones most sought after, and run accordingly. Chief interest will centre in the big event, the n THAMES TROTTING CUP HANDICAP. Of £325; 4.42 class; 2 miles. Bingen King Lt. Bingen Star . 36 Billy Whizz . Lt. Buz : Buz ... 48 Gold Sound . Lt. Respect .... 48 Rua Fere . . Bt. Nelson Tasker 60 Yds. bhd. Florent . . . . 60 Goldfinch ... 12 Jean Darling . 72 Gold Jacket . 36 Rock Hinton . 72 Luvan .... 36 Anselm .... 84 Reliance ... 36 Glandore ... 96 There are several engaged with the necessary qualifications to provide a good race. If Luvan is a starter she will carry a lot of money, and on recent form punters may not be far astray making her the medium of solid support. There is a suggestion that Luvan may not be a competitor, and in her absence Gold Jacket may be next in request. This pacer has only to do his best to prove troublesome, and it will be disappointing if he fails to run prominently. Respect has given a taste of his quality, and cannot be passed by. Bingen Starr, is another with a chance. Good support is sure to be accorded Rock Hinton, and on his form at Te Aroha he appears dangerous. Anselm may find the distance just beyond him, and he will probably be better suited in the mile and aquarter later in the day. Jean Darling should be in the picture, but she has yet to show that she can compass two miles. On figures she is well placed, and should she fail, her supporters can look to receiving a return later in the season. The most likely ones to be in the firing-line at the finish are Luvan, Gold Jacket, and Rock Hinton. The mile saddle event follows: PURIRI HANDICAP, Of £115; 2.24 class; 1 mile. Ben Zolock . Lt. Our Pirate . . 36 Fungus . . Lt. Percy Dillon . 36 Great Audo . Lt. Profiteer ... 36 Glenoc .... Lt. Rockaway . . 48 Zealous . . . Lt. Golden Hope . 48 Yds. bhd. Wrigley ... 48 Ekoeranei . . 12 Kingsclere . . 72 Hohora . . .12 Huon Roamer . . . 36 Grattan . . 84 Surveyor . . 36 Hal Chimes .. 84 Roamer is well suited, and should be seen running well. Surveyor has a chance to make up for past disappointments, and as he is trained by J. T. Paul, will have plenty of admirers. Rockaway, with a little patience on the part of his pilot, is sure to run a true race, and as he is a fast beginner, will have every opportunity to improve on recent place performances. Roamer and Rockaway should be the most prominent in the run home. The two mile handicap, for trotting horses only, is the PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, Of £160; 4.57 class; 2 miles. Tiki Lt. Yds. bhd. Direct Action Lt Kolmar .... 48 Sweet Memory Lt. Anseline ... 60 Col. Thorpe Lt. Sean TriubRed Dennis . . Lt. hais .... 60 Floraline . . . Lt. Roe Bell ... 72 Roma Bingen Lt. Wild Nut . . 132 Sebisea . . . 144 Roma Bingen will not be a starter. In her absence Sean Truibhais is likely to be installed favourite, and should come close to being one of those in it at the finish. Direct Action has failed so often that on form he cannot be recommended, but it is a well-known fact that were he to give of his best the race would prove easy money for him. Floraline is entitled to a deal of respect, and should prove rather annoying to the other competitors. A pacing two-mile race is the next on the card, and this is the KEREPEEHi HANDICAP, Of £110; 4.51 class; 2 miles. Golden Park . Lt Yds. bhd. Moko Chief . Lt Tiger Salve . 12 Red Star . . L* oko Pete . . 48 Sidelight . . . L* ! rect MornTeddy Ansel . L 1 ing .... ISO The public will want nothing else but Tony Victor, and what beats him home will return good odds. In his

absence there are a few others likely to fight out the issue, including Aggie Bell and Wrigley, while Roamer and Surveyor, engaged previously, have chances, The day’s sport will conclude with the KOPU HANDICAP, Of £130; 2.54 class; 1$ miles. Taipare .... Lt. Respect ... 24 Rockaway . . Lt. Huon Grattan 24 Bingen King . Lt. Mulwaree . . 24 Admiral Lock Lt. Goldfinch ... 24 Gold Sound . Lt- Liberate .... 24 Aggie Bell . . Lt.
