In HOBSON STREET
Sir, — I would like to draw your attej. tion to the state of the footgMfc on both sides of Hobson Street, from Pitt to Victoria Streets. A few weeks ago the crunch sa. ployees placed a layer of tar from their boiler and spread orer it some kind of sand or gravel, done very quickly, and a small road roller about big enough for a private tennis lawn, rolled over it
Although I am no expert in paTements, aav fool could see that it n, in no wav likely to stand our weather. For the past twq weeks every house or shop in the street has had its q. ola of the shingle. One shop, keeper told me it covered his exposed stores, and when the heavy rains came, like this week, it wag worse. If any council official cares to walk up the street he will see the shop entrances covered with 1! sacks. In my case I have a private apartment house and my rooms, of ; course, get the dirt daily from my tenants' boots. Before this brain .wave was perpetrated I was able to sweep my own frontage, although I believe it is the council s duty to do it. Now it is impossible, the material never set, and if you put a broom on it to clean it you ruin ! your broom and put the surface in the gutter.
I suppose I could get every occopier on both sides of th 6 street to endorse this complaint, bat I haven’t the time to bother. DISGrSTED.
