UPPER HARBOUR ACTIVITIES

COTTAGE BURNED DOWN {From Our Own Correspondent.) GREENHITHE, To-day. A seaside cottage, owned by Mr. L. Albersten. and situated at Greenhithe. Lpper Harbour, was totally destroyed by fire, with all contents, at midnight °n Sunday last. There was no insurance on the furniture, but the house insured in the Government Office The family left Greenhithe by the afternoon launch for town. The origin the fire is unknown. The Women’s Institute held theii nionthly meeting at Greenhiti*e on Thursday last. There was a large attendance in Mrs. Tait’s drawingroom. Mr. Jelly gave an interesting address on “Prose and Poetry.” which delighted his audience. Mrs. Irwin presided. A “hard up” dance was to have been held at Greenhithe on Saturday night last, but owing to the inclemency of the weather it was postponed till next Saturday. However, as a large number of residents arrived from town by launch, not knowing of the altered arrangements. the hall was opened, and a very enjoyable evening spent. Mr. Leo Sayers and his dance orchestra supplied the music. Mr. D. Davison delighted the audience with a violin sole, the intermezzo from “Cavalleria Rusticana.” Mrs. Sayers playing the accompaniment.
