LYCEUM CLUB NEWS

The concert and old world dress parade to be given in aid of the Plunket Funds by the Lyceum Club, in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Thursday, March 31, promises to be unusually interesting. Some of the wonderful gowns to be worn in the parade are more than 400 years old. and when one thinks of their long journey down those years, one is amazed at their exquisite beauty and state of preservation. What memories each silken fold and cascade of lace must hold—could they but whisper their secrets —stories of the longdead grandes dam es, whose beauty they have served to emphasise, and hundred other fragrant fancies consigned centuries ago to the limbo of forgotten things! Box plans for the concert are at the E. and F. Piano Agency, and tickets may also be obtained at the Lyceum Club office. On Thursday, March 31, the annual conference of the Federated Women’s Clubs of New Zealand will take place in the Lyceum rooms.
