TEN YEARS’ OPERATIONS
Amalgamations and absorbt?<ons during the past 10 years have accounted for a considerable decrease in the number of banks operating; in Australia, and the decade has# seen* the disappearance of the following institutions as separate entithes: 1917. Royal Bank o£ Queensland and Bank of North Queensland, amalgamated as Bank of Queensland. 1918. —National Bank of Tasmania, acquired by Commercial Bank of Australia; Colonial Bank of Australasia, acquired by National* Bank of Australasia. -
1921.—London Efenk of Australia, acquired by Engli.-ih, Scottish and Australian Bank: Commercial Bank of Tasmania acquired by English, Scottish Bank. . 19; 2.—• -ank off Queensland, acquired by National Bank of Australasia. P ank of Victoria, amalgamated with Commercial Banking. Company of SycJney; Westerfi Australian Bank, acquired by the Bank of New South Wales.
Negotiations are now proceeding for the amalgamation of the Royal Bank of Australia with the English, Scottish and Australian Bank.
