BEAUTIFUL BATHROOM ACCESSORIES
A glass shelf or two, and a window ledge that has been widened, by means of a lath of wood, are needed If you wish to take advantage of the many lovely bathroom accessories that are now provided. Large powder bowls for talcum, made in heavy pottery, will have a longer lease of life than those of ephemeral glass, and are really beautiful additions to the bathroom shelves Some of these bowls are made by disabled soldiers, and they speak well of the way in which the men have graduated in the craft. For those who still prefer glass bathroom accessories, there are bowls of a particularly heavy make, which are exceptionally tough in wear. They are made in a variety of gay colours, very cheering in the bathroom, which no longer abides by the old “all white” rule. Bath salts offer scope for a variety of bottles and boxes, and gesso work on a wooden base is being largely exploited for these. Lacquer, which by reason of the resinous compound used in its manufacture is impervious to moisture and heat, also figures among the modern bathroom adornments.
A decorative addition is the bath salts spoon, which is hung by a coloured silk cord from the wall. Curiously wrought spoons of pewter and brass are brought into use, and the Russian spoon of painted and varnished wood is useful both from f he decorative and the utilitarian standpoint. Tall vases of hand-decorated glass serve to take the various tubes of tooth paste, while jars with storied “pot lids” take the family tooth powders.
