NEW REGENT AND PRINCESS
“THE MARRIAGE CLAUSE” Your money’s worth and more awaits you at the Ne\y Regent and Princess Theatres, where “The Marriage Clause,” a Universal-Jewel, is the featured attraction. In addition to the actual story of tore picture, the course of the action unfolds four stage plays within the photoplay, hence you will be seeing five plays for the price of one. - The outstanding feature of “The Marriage Clause,” is the superb acting of the featured principals, Francis X. Bushman and Billie Dove. They portray their scenes with a verve and vigour that is nothing short of perfection. The manly Bushman, with his eagerness and earnest appreciation of his role, still retains the magnetism that placed him first in the hearts of fans all over the world. Too much praise cannot be given to the beautiful Billie Dove, tier charm and pulchritude would be sufficient unto themselves even though she did not possess the marked ability and talent vfhich are so strikingly her own. Warner Oland is one of the greatest character actors in the movies. There is a silken craftiness about his every motion that bespeaks his vast experience. His semi-humorous difficulties as the stage manager during the most highly dramatic action. Credit should be given to Grace Darmond for her clever handling of a most difficult role. Her portrayal of the jealous Mildred Le-Blanc is typical of a certain type of actress, and she invests her role with a. finesse hardly believable in so young a person. Comedy relief is supplied by Caroline Snowden, as Pansy, the coloured maid. A major part' of the laughs accrue as a result of her inimitable work in the role. Henri LaGarde does exceptionally well as Miss Dove’s personal physician. Andre Cheron, Robert Dudley, Charles Meakin and Oscar Smith come in for praise in minor roles. The balance of the players are perfectly cast.
