A STREET FIGHT

BATTLE IN OTAHUHU Two men, whose names were ordered to be suppressed, were charged at the Otahuhu police court on Tuesday with fighting in Great South Road, Otahuhu. One of the defendants did not appead, but the other was represented by Mr. Wood, and pleaded not guilty. Sergeant Parsons prosecuted and said that one of the acccused was walking along Great South Road on Monday evening accompanied by two ladies when the other accused approached, and without warning or provocation, struck him. A fight ensued, both accused eventually being arrested by Constable Fletcher. Mr. Wood said his client had really been assaulted, and had retaliated in self-defence, and suggested that the case be dismissed. Their Worships, however, entered a conviction against each accused, with a fine of £1 and £2 in the case of the absent accused.
