FROM OUR TONGA CORRESPONDENT.

Our Tonga correspondent under date 31»t August sends vis the following:— On the 19th inst., the French transport Dives, Captain Rdveilliero, First-Lieu-tenant Prevost, 1800 tonii, 150 h.p., 120 men, from Tahite to New Caledonia, called nt Vavaii, and steamed out again on the V?OtU. On her passage down ths harbour she met the German barque GodothVoy coming from Samoa, and noticing that the barque had missed slays, her engines were eased as it was thought her assistance might be natural. The sarqus went ashore in a very dangerous spot, llouga, and the Frenchman gallantly went to her assistance, and, after several unsuccessful attempts, succeeded in getting her ofT, subsequently towing her to Xiafu. Tho Frenchman lo*t a whole day on this account though he was very much pressed for time, as he bad to be at Noumea by a certain day in order to meet anotker vessel which was to convey the greater part of her crew and officers to Francs, their service being ended. Our correspondent adds that ths transport had b«on on service in tho Tahiti and Marquesas Groups, on account of ths insurrection of the natives at tho Island of St. Dominique, which insurrection is now quelled.
