On Monday last, early, a stoamer was observed making for our .harbour. On arrival fli« proved to be H.T.G.M.S. Hyonn, from Callao, via Tahiti, from whence she has been expected for some time. The following is a list of the officers on board the Hyena: Captain Lieutenant von Olooden, First Lieuteuant von Eickstadt, Lieutenants Wnllraann, Rotztaff, and Lilion; Surgeon, Dr. Friedrich.

An American schoonor, the Pannonia, en route to Fiji, touched here on Monday for the purpose of landing a mail. The barquo Sophie from the Kingsmill Group entered our harbour on Monday last. The Sophie, in addition to a quantity of island produce, brings 105 labourers for tho Deutsche Uandels nnd Plautagcn Gosellschoft. On Tuesday the schooner Pearl from San Francisco ontered this port. The Pearl is on her way to the Carolines to look after the American schooner Undine, which is report (id to have got on tho reef at Ponapio, one of tho Islands in the Group just named. Yesterday, tho German sailors in the Nautilus's steam-launch had (heir tempers severely tried. As the barge had reached fhr> steps she did not stop there, but ran undir the bridge. Tier ehininoy-stnek was a bar to progress; but there was no such word as fuil, and, as something had to give way to the power of steam, the chimney did. A few moments afterwards considerably activity was displayed in effecting temporary repairs.—N. Z. Herald (Auckland) May 3.

Yo itcrday a new schooner was launched from Messrs, Lane and Brown's shipbuilding yards. As tho schooner jrlidcd down the ways to her future element, her fine lines and general symmetry found favour in the eyes of the spectators. This last specimen of Messrs. Lane and Brown, as builders and marine draughtsmen, will bear favourable comparison with uny of the numerous craft turned out of their yards lately—viz., the Active, Energy, Minnie Hare, Alert, and others. I may mention the Alert has taken first prize atthoLyttelton regatta for two years running. Tho new .schooner is built to the order of Captain Cooper, of Levuka, and is to trade to tho Islands, for which sho is well ndaptod. having good sailing and carrying qualities combined. Her dimensions are: Length of keel, 52ft.; width of beam, 1.1 ft.; depth of hold, f.ft. She is built of the best of timber, and planked with the heart of kauri oopper fastened and sheathed with copper, and fitted up with a neat and well ventilated cabin. Messrs. Lane and Brown's vessels are built under a largo roofed building 100 ft by 70ft. thus giving them a higher class at Lloyds.' This enterprising firm has made extensivo addition! to their shipbuilding plant by the erection of a steam uw-mili tor cutting the timber required by thorn, and can now cut timber SOft. long.
