The burtjue Reconnaissance, which arrived hero on Saturday last, left Sydney 011 tho 2'Jth July, and experienced (strong breezes and squally weather from X and NE until arriving iu latitude 3:i--)2 S and longitude 175-0 east, .thence to Tongatabu, thick foggy weather and continuous northerly winds. Arrived at Tonga on August 21st. Sailed from Tonga on September .i, and arrived ut llaahai on the 7th. sailing for Yavuu ou the 11th. Arrived at Vuvau on tho 12th, sailed for Samoa on tho 17th, ■and arrived as above stat"d, thus making tho voyage from Sydney in 53 days, including 10 days ut Tonga, 1 days a't llaahai. and a days at Vuvau. The American schooner (him. left our .harbour for San Francisco on Sunday lust, with a fair cargo ami four passengers. The schooner Niuafou (late Mary) arrived in harbour on Sunday last from Savage Island.
On Sunday last tho Fogoloa took her departure for Muuua. The.cutter Thistle arrived in harbour on Monday last from Fiji, with a cargo of jams. She left Levuka on August 31st, .and anchored at Wakaya the same night through stress of weather ; left Wakaya on 3rd instant, aud arrived at Kndavu on the Sth, where they took in a load of yams. Left IGidai'u on the 13th, taking departure from Ougea Island at (i p.m. on tho 17th; making the Samoan Group on tho 21st, arriving in Apia Harbour at b" p.m. on tho 22ud. Experienced a stiff gale from tho K."?K tilljtrrival, making the pussage under .reefed canvas. On Tuesday last the schooner Madonna took her departure for a cruise amongst the Tougan Islands. The schooner Ovalau left Levuka on tho Ist instant, for Auckland, wo may therefore .expoct her to -arrive in harbour in a fortnight. The John Williams, which arrived in harbour yesterday morning, sttiled from hero on tho 13th May last for the Mission Society's stations east of this group, ■and has visited sinco that date seventy-five islands, having anchored four times, and of tho 136 days elapsed she has boon under weigh 125 days; her cruise lias extended from Kappa or Opuroin 27' S and Ml- \V to Danger Island in 10*86 S ami ltit> W. She is last from Savage Island, whence she sailej on the 22ud instant, witli a strong Si; hade, which she carried to 10-.SU S, thence light northerly and westerly winds to port. The cruise has been throughout boisterous, with unusually high sons. The mission stations were found in a satisfactory -ate. .".fter filling water she proceeds to the Lino Islands, and will return to this port übout Christmas, and then proceed to Sydney via Savage Island.
