Divisr. Service.—ln consequence of the inclement state of the weather DO Sunday night last, there was no service held in the Foreign (.'hurch, at Apia. The usual quarterly collection for lighting and, cleaning the church will, therefore, he made after the service tomorrow moruing.
SKI.LI.Na WITIIOIT A LICKXSK. Oil Thursday last Mr. St. Fov was charged by the jK>lice, before, the Aeutrnl Territory Court, with a violation of tho regulation in reference to the sale of intoxicating liquors. The case fell through, however, through the absence of the principal witness.
Escaped krom Gaol.—On Saturday night last two native prisouers who wew in gaol, succeeded in making their escape from K«ol. It appears, from what we can Team tfiat there wu a small knot-holo in the floor, which the inmates succeeded in making largo enough to admit of their escape. Both prisoners are still at large. Wo believe that SlO is offered for the capture of Ua'ta, who lias been seen several times during the past week.
Dinner.—()a Thursday afternoon last the natives of Apia gave a dinner to the captains and officers of 11.1.Q,M.5. Bismarck and the U.B.S. Lackawanna. Tue dinner, which was served up in true native style, was given in the house "i Seuinanatafa, which was very tastefullv decorated with fruits, dowers, and evergreens. Tito display of food was really good, and the novelty of having t" sit upon the ground and carve Willi their fingers was amusing to those strangers who had never before seen a dinner in the true Sumoau style.
The Fourth m> Jci.y.—On Saturday last the ships in harbour celebrated the anniversary of the Independence of the United States. The U.S.N. Lackawanna, and H.i.lr.M.S. Bismarck were fully dressed with bunting, and at noon both ship; fired a salute of twentv-ouc guns. The merchant ships all hoLsteil their colours, and between seven and eight, o'clock in the evening a quantity of fireworks wen- let off from the Lackawanna, bill the night was rather too li"ht for thetn to show off their proper brilliancy. In the evening the United States Consul got up an impromptu party, at which several of the officers of both "ships of war, nearly all tho American residents, and several other resident.-- of the town, enjoyed themselves for a number of hours in dancing, ecc. The splendid brass band of the German ship of war Ariadne was in attendance, and discoursed sweet music during the evening. The premises were, nicely lit up with coloured lanterns, and the whole company retired about midnight, thanking Mr. Dawsuu for u pleasant evening's amusement.
Prohibiting Prune Gather.ino.~The Neutral Territory Authorities having learned that certaiu natives resident without tlio neutral territory intended to tulolo (present food, &e.,) to Captain Chandler, of the TJ.S.S. Lackawanna, issued a regulation in the Samoan language, prohibiting the public gathering together within the neutral territory of persona living outside the boundaries. The object of this regulation was to prevent a possible collision between the contending parties in the present unsettled state of affairs, upon the neutral ground.
