ODDS AND ENDS.
The Wandrahm has arrived, and with that fact the whole of my " expectations," upon which I have been living for the last few months have taken their departure. Although " the ship has brought a mail " she did not bring me any money. However i feel happy in the knowledge that I am not the only one she has disappointed. I have to congratulate my friend Parkinson in that the surveying business is so flourishing as to enable him to tak-j a partner. The necessary documents were all duly signed sealed "ami delivered on Saturday last, and thu firm registered, as Parkinson and Co., at the German Consulate. 1 wish them every success and prosperity.
While lounging arouml the police head quarters—the Hotel zur Stadt Hamburg—l overheard the chief telling his undor-strappers that the badge of office wan to bo a large caulilionr-shuped rosette upon the left Wast The colours were to l«—rod for England, blue for Ameriea, black fur Germany, with a ground-work of white to denote the purity uud innoeenco of the Samoana! Ohlor! Now 1 would suggest that, in addition to this the chief be allowed to wear ;t cocked hat and white kid gloves. It says a great deal for the good order of our little town when 1 say that although Wo have had policemen on the heat for nearly a week they have not succeeded ill running any-one in. When license day came 1 did expect to have some tun, but i have been sold. Those who were going to defy the powers that be, have thought hotter of it, and don't intend to try the experiment. I admire their good sense, and hope they will continue to he of the same mind. LorxfiEK.
