Sir, nor squire, With titles that the memory tire; Nor ancestry traced back to Will, Who »ent from Normandy to kill; Noi Latin, Creek, nor Hebrew lore, Noi thousand volumes rambled o'er, Nor Judge- robe, nor Mayor's mace, Nor crowns that deck, the royal race ; These iil united never :an. iVvail to make a sii.-le -non. A truthful soul, o loving mind, l;'uji o : affection for its kind ; \ helper >£ the human race, A soul >i beauty and of grace ; :i spirit firm, erect and free, That never basely bends the kneo; Chat will not bear :•■ feather's weight Of slaiery'f chain, for small or great ; Tlutt firmly speaks of C-od within, And never makes a league of sin, L'hat simps the betters despots j.ake, And loves tin.
