' The following extract from the Brighton Gazette of September 27, says a correspondent, is an arousing instanco of going abroad to learn news of our own country:—" The Tolegastograph. —This wonderful invention has been experimented upon by the Governor of Australia, Sir George Bowon, Baron Von Mueller, Professor Pearson, Mr. Ellery, and aliovo thirty others, stationed at Melbourne, Geelong, Castlemoine, and two other places, and with complete success. By placing one end of the instrument in wine, soup, oysters, flesh of ehiken, turkey, &a, the effoct to any number of persons having another end in their mouth (no matter how far away) is similar to eating and drinking, and a|l the thirty-six persons making tho experiments, could declare what tho instrument was dipped into; in short, wine had the effect of making some of them mora or less intoxicated, and when dipped into scalding-hot soup, Sir George Bowen and others Instrument from the mouth thinking they had their months scalded.
