On Monday morning last, some little excitement was caused by the sight of u small Bteamer making for our harbour. It turned out to be u smart little steamer—the Eva—hound for Tahiti, but calling in here for coals. This little boat was purchased by the captain, and is intended to run amongst the Society Islands; she Ims double high pressure engines of 2J h.p., uud is suiil to travel uino-kuets per hour on a consumption of two and u quarter tons of eoa! nor diem.
