FUR TIIK NEW YEAR. j From regions where dark-robed pine trei And the tender snowdrop lifts its head Above the spotless untrodden snow. Like sweet voung faces from downy bed, To the summer isles of Southern Seas, Where, with a dignity all their own. There stand thostately cocoa-nut trees Like conquerors, each with leafy erown : From N'orth to .South, and from 1-kst to West, Wheiw'er they be to our hearts held "Mid Winter's snows, or with Summer blest, We wish them all "A happy New Yi ar"! Are some in soitow, oh ! make them And "with Thy best gifts their spirits Oh! give to them joy whose hearts are sad, And grant thorn teo a happy New For sins*committed, duties undone, We ask forgiveness, most gracious Lord, For any hard battle fought and won. \\ itii (ear weak selves be Thy name For all the mercies of davs now gone, We thank Thee, Heavenly Father dear, And now we pray, through Thy wellloved Sou, For a blessing on the opening year. As the mists creep swift, their night's work done, Up from the valleys and plains below, And vanish at sight of morning sun. Till not e'en'the hills one trace can show. So Lord, mav the Sun of Righteousness, As dawns'thu mora of another year, Arise in our hearts eaeh one to hless, The mists therein with his In urns to clear, The misis of our seiiislmrss and pride. t)f evil thoughts and of words unkind, Of unbelief in tie' Crucified, (if doubts and fears which oppress the mind.
