Attempt at Suicide.—On Tuesday afternoon last a native, living in the vicinity of Matautu. had a quarrel with his mother. After this very uu-sonlike conduct, he felt that it would he Letter to die than live at variance with his mother, so he obtained a gun and discharged the contents into his breast. No sooner was this rash act accomplished than he felt a desire to live. He was accordingly brought to Dr. (i. A. Turner, under whose .skilful treatment he is likely to live, we believe, to be a wiser if not a better man. Mil. J. 11. WaISKKH.—Mr. .T. 11. Warner, who arrived horo last week in the Sudsee, taking his departure again in the Anrurita, was a member of the Defence Commission in Australia, of which Sir William Jervois was the head. At the last general election iu England, Mr. Warner unsuccessfully contested the borough of Leicester, in tho Conservative interest; he has lately been chosen as a candidate for the county at the next election. It is well that a few members inf the House of (.'ominous should have a little personal experience of the South Seas.
