Highway Robbery.—Tho natives are daily becoming more daring in their deeds of violence, and yet wo are told that we have a Government in Samoa. On Saturday night last, a sailor, who had that day received his discharge from the barque Sophie, was proceeding along the road in Matafelc, when he was suddenly pounced upon by some fifteen Samoans. lie received a blow on the back of tho neck that brought him to the ground, and the miscreants at once proceeded to rillo his pockets. Upon the victim shouting for help, one of the natives picked up a handful of sand and filled his mouth with it, thus effectually gagging him. After relieving him of some $lO in money, and the most of his clothing, the scoundrels made off. We have hoard of ono or two other stieking-up cases during tho past week, but we have been unable to learn the particulars. It will be necessary for those whoso business or pleasure calls thorn out at night to provide themselves with a life-preserver. Bio Guy Practice.—On Thursday morning last the Gorman ship of war Ariadne engaged in somo big gun practice, firing at a target placed upon tho reef, some 050 yards from tho ship. Tho firing was very good, and somo excellent shots were made, so much so that there was vnry little of the target loft when tho practice was finished. Native Quarrels. —Wo hear rumours that some native quarrels have taken place during the past week, both to loowan), and a fow miles to windward of Apia. Several houses are reported (o have been burned down, and homo natives severely wounded in the affrays, bat nothing reliable upon the matter luui come lo band.
