Scholastic—Wo are glad to learn that a school tesoher and his wifo have been engaged in Sydney for here, li will ho remembered that, some time ago it was agreed by the foreign residents thai it was advisable to have a teacher for Apia, and a vilary of £2OO was guaranteed. The teacher and his wifo will, in nil probability arrive hero in about a mouth, themfore ponions, especially thoee living at a distance, and desirous of ediieating their children, would do woll to apply at OUCB, lor tonus, &c, to the Trustees. From tin- li<>t of rofercea mbmitted •wo would coneludo that ibo parties expected to arrive aro the right persona in the rijht place.
I'ii-i Report.- Some few lamesagol '■• l a report that Opperuian, a] German trader at Apiuiaina, had Loan murdered by the natives o( tlmt islund.! By the return of tho GodefFroy we are placed is the position to stuteth.it tho [ Oppennan is still alive and has not beon molested in anyway. It appears that the report wan circulated, for reason* of ' his own, by a person glorying in tho so,I ri |U.; of • Holy Joe.'
Public Dathixo.- Our attention Ims been called to tho fact that certain white people are in the habit of bathing publicly, in broad daylight, and in a perfectly nude state, both m close proximity to Williamson's bridge, and to the beach road. We beg to call the attention of these individuals to the fact that there ure a couple of good and private bathing places uot more than a mile inland. If the parties bathing close to the road cannot rind time to go inland, we would advise thorn, for decencv sake, to provide themselves with an old shirt and trousers to batho in. If these individuals have no respect for themselves, they < ught to have some for the feiunlo portion of our residents. A word to the wise is enough. "The Weather.— During the past week we have had such a downfall of rain that the hearts of the planters have been gladdened therein-. Everything and everybody, except those whose business called them out. have put on quite u pleased appearance. Tanks have been tilled, and brown patches have become green, much to the satisfaction of the cuttle and hones.
