i Take courage, lad. What if you are au humble, obscure apprentice—a poor neglected orphan—a scon and a by-word for the thoughtless and gay who despise virtue in rags because of its tatters ? Have you an intelligent mind, untutored, though it be Y Have you a virtuous aim, a pure desire and an honest heart 'i Depond upon it_ some of these days you will be wanted. The time may not be long deferred—you may be grown into manhood, aud you may even reach your prime ere the call is made: but virtuous aims pure desires and honest hearts are too tew not to be appreciated—not to be wanted. Your virtue shall not always hide you as a mantle obscurity shall not always veil you from the multitude. Bo chivalrio in your combat with circumstances. Be active, however small your sphere of action. It wirt surely enlarge with every moment, and you will have continued increasement. Look on the bright side. It is the right side. The times may be hard, but it will make them no easier to wear a gloomy and sad countenance. It is thesunshino aud not the cloud that gives beauty to the flowers. There is always before or or around us that which should cheer and fill the heart with gladness. The sky is blue ten times where it is black once. You have troubles, it may be. So have others. None are free from them and perhaps it is as well that none should he. They give sinew and tone to life—fortitude and courage to a man. That would be a dull sea, and the sailor would never acquire skill, were there nothing to disturb its surface. It is the duty of every one to extract all the happiness lie can from within and without him ; and above all, he should look on the bright side. What though things do' look a little darii ( The lane will have a t'irning, and tno night will end in broad day. In me long run the great balance rights itse!.. What appears ill becomes well—tnat which appears wrong,- right.
