Our rewrote are useless, our repining* f utilo. Tho solo idea should bo tho chances > we possess of remedying tho ills wo already have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good mi exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to tho world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at largo, tho welfare of our future offspring, and the duty wo owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till the ravages break out in onr constitutions. Before negociating with n merchant, before engaging witli a commercial clerk ; before employing a barrister, a careful man makes enquiries as to their standing, their length of occupancy or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and ns to his capabilities of transacting tho individual business lie consults upon. Strange to say, however, in , tho selection of a medical man, tho sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions and without regard to tho fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults tho nearest man, whoso experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite nu opposite direction. It is astonishing that so many are driven mad, are mined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope and money ? Have I not for years pointed out to them that “ T. Dr. L. L. Smith, am tho only legally qualified medical man advertising in the colonies? ” Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, thoso very quacks, and exposed the various nostriums they are selling,—such as Phosphodyuo, Kssence of • Life, &v. —and had them analysed and found them to consist of “ Burnt sugar ami flavoring matter,” and tho certificates I have ruovED to he all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of tho ethics of the profession and advertise' to give those who require the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and* one, moreover, who has made this his study.
