London, February G. It is reported that Lord Salisbury is making preparations for immediate occupation of the Mnkoioio country and district along the Shire River by British troops. The repot that Potttgal is rePowers to convene a Conference ou the Zambesi question is denied. February 7. It is understood that Lord Salishury will comply with the request fi »r a conference on the Zaml>< -1 «p\io*tion. It is reported that the Potnguese continue the system of terrorising' residents in the disputed East African district. February 8. Spasmodic outrages an? being committed on the English residents at Lisbon and Oporto. The Republican press there exaggerated tho vapourisg in view of the elections. Lisbon, February 8. Scnhor Martins Antas will interview Lord Salisbury with the view of arranging for a European Conference to discuss tho dispute between England ami Portugal as regard* Zambesi. It is asserted that the English Prime Minister i's yielding to the advice of the Groat Powers, and will probably acquiesce in the proposal for a Conference.
