Upon making enquiries we learned that this severe law was the outcome of the harsh treatment the chief Lauati received at the hands of Tamaseso's peoplo in a neighbouring town a few inoatha ago. Lauati and one other chief were indneed to , pay a visit to a Tamasese (own, whan they wore'treacherously seised and imprisoned, and kepi to gaol about two aaontha,and treated with grant indignity. It was in revenge lor this treatment that Lauati when released issued this terrible law, which we hope will bo immediately cancelled.
