Saturday, Janoauy I9th, 1889. THE OKRM\N OOVK'iXMEXT AND NAVY V. STKHPEK J. CURACK. The German Consul, on behalf of his Government and navy instituted this action under criminal jurisdiction against the proprietor of the Samoa Tinea for reprinting an article from the San Francisco Examiner entitled, *-Oor Duty to Samoa." Mr. Cusack pleaded not guilty. Dr. Knappe briefly stated his case. In answer to the defendant ho said he had no special instruction from his Government to make this charge. Ho mode it on his own respondbility. i Mr. Cusack stated that he was not acquainted with tho High Commissioner's Court laws or prooeedure and asked for an adjournment to procure legal advice. The Deputy Commissioner refused to adjourn the case. Mr. Cusack wen declined to enter into any defence, but stated that be would answer any questions submitted to bim. The Deputy High Commissioner
