I The death is reported of J': irate Edward A. Quinn, of Rivertaa,

The wife of the late Dr C. T. Little, whose death was reported a few days ago', did not long survive her husband. Word has been received of her death at the Christ-church Hospital.

.Arehhishop O'Shea has just celebrated the silver jubilee of his ordination to priesthood at Wellington,. He is the first Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, born, educated and trained in New Zealand, and was one of the first students at St., Patrick's College ■ .

! General regret is felt at Kaikoura at the deatli of the Rev. Mother Ma>y Theophane, who died on " Tuesday night, aged 55 years. The Rev. iMother, who was born at \'api>r, entered the convent at ll;e age o! I'"*[She bad been nursing (a family through the epilomic, and contracted the disease herself. She belo'igd to the Order of the Sisters of the Mission, and was highly respected' i« Kaikoura.

1 Mrs Fargie, wife of Mr W. U. Fargie, who resided in the Stratford, district for some time, and vho • ent to the front, died in New Plymouth Hospital on Saturday. The deceased v. a 3 jmuch respected in New' Plymouth fur her efforts in connection v"■ ii patriotic affairs and also for work during [the epidemic. It is understood that Mi 'Fargie has sailed for New Zealand. [The late Mrs Fargie leaves two .hildren.

The death occurred yesterday morning of Mrs Whittington, wife of Mr Charles (Dick) Whittington, at the age of 27 years. The deceased, who was the second daughter of Mr N. B. Fryday, Ngaere, was attacked by the epidemic and was an inmate of the Whangamomona temporary hospital. She leaves a family of two children. The funeral took place this afternoon. Mr Whittington was recently transferred from Palmerston North to Whangamomona, where he is stationmasier, and at one time was in the Stratford office of the Railway Department. To him and the relatives, heartfelt sympathy will be extended.

At the Stratford Hospital last evening Mr Bertram E. Cooper, Pukengahu, aged 36, succumbed to influenza. The deceased was removed io hospital about ten days ago. Ko was manager of the Eltham Dairy Company's Waihapa Road factory, to which he had been promoted from Wingrove factory. Mr Cooper had been with the, Company a number of years, was a much valued official, and earned the respect of those settlers with whom ho was associated. Deep sympathy will be extended to his wife and family of seven young children, and also to his mother, who resides in Wellington. The interment takes place at Kopuatama cemetery to-morrow.

Mr J. Wi. Poynton., S.M., who was chairman of the Second Wellington Military Service Board, has been appointed magistrate for the Auckland suburban district. Mr D. G. A. Cooper, who was chairman of the First Wellington Military Service Board, and also a member of the Military Pensions Board, frill have his time fully occupied in future in dealing with business connected will the latter, body. Mr J. E. Wilson, S.M., at Greymouth, is to become second magistrate at Auckland. Mr Cut ten is. to remain the senior magistrate in that city. Mr E. D. Moseley, S.M., who has been stationed at Auckland, is to be transferred to Gore. Mr Barton, S.M. at Wh.-.ngarei, and Mr Levon, S-M. at Te Kuiti, are to exchange districts.

A very pleasant surprise was afforded Mrs E. Pi r'Mdridge, of Pembroke Road, and her relatives on Saturday, when a telegram was received from the Defence Minister (Sir James .Allen) stating that the report of tile death of Private E. P. Aldridge from broncho-pneumonia at Cairo on 25th November was incorrect. The facts

are that Private. Aldridge was admitted to the No. 2 Australian Stationary Hospital at Tel-el-Kebir on November 29, suffering from scabies and debility, slight. The Minister stated that the mistake had arisen, owing to confusion over the death of an Australian soldier of the same name, and ho added his sincere hopes for Private ! Aldridge's speedy recovery. All friends of the family will learn the glad news with much satisfaction.
