AN EARLY CONFERENCE.
The announcement that an early Imperial Conference is proposed no doubt explains why Mr Massey arid Sir Joseph Ward have postponed then departure from London, the Lyttelton Times says, and while the special nature of the business to he sot ‘before the Conference is for,the present| a matter for conjecture, it is mam-1 fest that the. new British Government desires to take the dominions into! consultation upon questions of firstclass importance. The New Zealand political leaders have not failed during their present visit to the. Mother Country to emphasise the right of oversea portions of the Lmpire to a fuller share of control and responsibility; in fact, we have had just a small apprehension that this was a little overdone in the present circumstances. The practical thing to do just now is to present a solid, united front to the enemy. We know, however, that Mr Massey’s and Sir Joseph Ward’s sentiments am completely in harmony with that view, arid consequently their observations .concerning Empire control were not likely to be misunderstood.
