HOLIDAY BUSINESS.
The Stratford shopkeepers report satisfactory results as far as Christmas trade is concerned. There was a steady influx of farmers and settlers from outlying districts on Saturday, and Broadway was a very busy centra in the evening. The shops were crowded, and the footpaths more so, numbers taking the road for their promenade. The police had an easy time of it, the crowd being conspicuously sober and well-conducted. Throughout the festivities, there, was a feeling that in these "war times," both pockets and "exuberance" required careful attention.
