Mr J. Gray, of Hawera, has been appointed dental officer for No. 8 (Taranaki) Group, with the rank of captain. Private Norman Orr, son of Mr J. W. Orr, of Tanmarunui (late of Pungarehu), has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry. Private Orr left New Zealand with tlie Bth Reinforcements. ' 3 ; i fOj iv A London cable states that Mr Massey-, and Sir Joseph Ward have postponed their departure for a monin. The cloth-workers elected Mr Massey a freeman. The company afterwards tendered him a luncheon. Mrs (HI Divehall, of Toko, received a further cable yesterday reporting that her sou, Private Albert Divehall, had been admitted to the Second London General Hospital on Decern belli. A London cable states that a Military Cross has been awarded to a New Zealander, Second-Lieutenant V. Stocker, of the Artillery. Five Military _ Medals have been awarded to New' Zealanders. Lieutenant Stocker is a brother of Mr Harry Stocker, of New Plymouth.

Corporal “Dick” Masters arrived by last night’s express and is now at home recuperating. The Corporal shows signs of wear, having still a good sized hole in his cranium, duo to a splinter of shrapnel. He is looking forward to a home spell to set him up again. All friends will wish that his Christmas holidays will be pleasant.

The Sunday Times of October 22, a copy of which has been received by Mrs M. T. Phillips Bird Road. INgaere, contains, a “Court Circular,’’ stating that the Military Cross had been awarded to Major-Chaplain Alfred Greene, New Zealand expeditionary Force. The recipient, uIfOSO work in connection with the Salvation Army in the field is so well-known as to need no repetition here, is a brother-in-law of Mrs Phillips.
