WOUNDED SOLDIERS’ FUND. The o'lowing interim slatt, intruded to illustrate llie work done by the 'raranaki Provincial War Eeli(>f A'"-ei billon in tin* first six months of its operations, is authorised by the Executive’s Finance Committee. The figures are approximate. The amount of the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund, for the Taranaki Provincial District, as at 90 th November, ]916, is £12.069, all raised by the Association’s local branches, with the exception of ,11920 subscribed from other sources. Of the total amount. £18,769 has been paid over by tin branches under the authorities issued by the Government for that purpose 1 : £7.720 is held by a local committee, which has not yet obtained its an thority to transfer to this Association, and the balance of approximate ly £15,000 is held by local branches, in either cash or investments.
In arriving at the amount ol the Fund, the figures stated represent the value of the respective branches funds, as at the dates ol authority to transfer to this Association, plus subscriptions to 90th November, 1916; but interest accruing in respect ol this period has not been included. The funds in the hands of the Association are invested: —£8,000 at call, £3,000 on bank deposit for 2 years, and £5,000 on 5 years’ Wai Loan Certificates ; those in the hands of the local branches are practically all on deposit at call. Relief has been granted as follows:
Grants by local branch in «3*.J spedlie cases ami promiscuous grants by way of temporary relief, £248 ; grants by Association in nine specific cases. £9O; relief by way of loan by tbe Association in live specific cases. £1080; contributions to New Zealand Soldiers’ Comforts Fund, per High Commissioner and N.Z. War Contingents Association, £980; total relief disbursements, £2,348. The total specific local cases relieved is 47. Owing to the irregularity in dates of authority to transfer funds, the increase can only -hc arrived at approximately; taking the approximate amount ol the kuud.as at 81st JuU. 1916 as a basis, the continued efforts of the local branches up to the 30th November, 191(5, resulted in an increase. of approximately £5,G09. In conclusion it is perhaps advisable to draw attention to the fact, that although the Fund is popularly known as Wounded Soldiers’ Fund, the objects of the Association also include the assistance of dependents of sick and wounded or fallen soldiers.
