THE CONVERT SCHOOL.
SUCCESSFUL YEAR'S WORK. The work of the Sisters and pupils of the Stratford Convent School for the past year lias been very successful all round, the pupils taking many first places in the* competitions open to all Taranaki chools such as music, writing, etc. As a fitting close to their duties, and to mark a happy milestone in the lives of the pupils, tho usual picnic and prize-giving ceremony was held at Ngaere Gardens yesterday. The day was ideal for an outing in the open air, and to mention that they enjoyed themselves does not adequately convey the feelings of the youngsters, though it will suffice and bo thoroughly understood hy the adults, who gloried in (ho opportunity to afford pleasure to their charges. Entraining at the station on the ten o’clock to Ngaere', it was a pretty gathering which assembled in the gardens ready for fun and as hungry as the proverbial horse. Almost everything imaginable in the category of children’s delights for such an occasion had been thoughtfully provided, and at any hour of the day, sandwiches, cakes, fruits, and sweets w.ere much in evidence. Sports were organised, and games were quickly in full swing, and the year’s prize-winners duly received their rewards, the names of tne successful competitors being appended. The company returned to Stratford oy the 5.45 train, tired and as happy as could be. Father Maples and the Rev. Mother and Sisters are to oe congratulated upon their arrangements for the annual break-up of tile school. Best wishes for a pleasant vacation and a Happy New Year go out to them from many friends in the district.
