Probably General Maude could have taken Kut-el-Amara three months ago. The Turks at lotah may bo expected to evacuate the Essie. lines. Wo might have pushed on by turning the Sannaiyat entrenchments on the other bank, but General Maude preferred not to move, as it would complicate the problem of food and water. General Maude has now marched through the Essie lines, occupied the waterway at Shatt-el-Hai, and bombarded Sannaiyat. Two light railways are being built, and the river flotilla strengthened. The hospi'al arrangements, are being re-org.ud.sed.
