DEATH OF REV. J. R. SHORE
MOTOR GAR OVERTURNED. DEATH INSTANTANEOUS, . Hamilton, December 18. (Per Press Association). Hey. J. R. Shore, formerly of Hawera, who was inducted as minister of St. Andrew’s Church in October, while motoring witli Mr R. Madill and three ladibs to conduct Service in an out-district yesterday, was going down a hill when the car skidded and overturned, failing on Mr Shore and killing him instantly. The others in Ike car were praejtically unhurt. The exceedingly sad intelligence conveyed in the above telegram will come as a great shock to the deceased gentleman’s many Stratford friends. Mr Shore recently left Hawera for the Hamilton Presbyterian Church, after many years of faithful service in the former charge. He was a graduate of the Otago University, i holding the degree of M.A., and a 1 keen student, continuing his studies (while in Hawera and passing in several subjects of the LL.B. degree, j Outside his church work he tdok a . keen interest in educational matters,
and indeed in all tilings tending to the welfare and uplift of the comj inanity in which he dwelt. He was also an enthusiastic member of tin-' Hawera Bowling Club, and a lover of : horticulture. His utterance on the > many occasions on which he was callled on to speak at patriotic and
1 other meetings in Hawera will long i he remembered by those privileged to ’hear him. A man possessed of the deepest sympathy for those in tumble, in sickness, or bereavement, . strong and outspoken on such subjects as temperance and social impurity, possessed with a keen sense lof duty towards* his feliownien, and especially those placed under ins charge spiritually, a splendid speaker and preacher, his death in his very prime causes a distinct loss to the community, comes as a blow to those who knew him best and is one that is hard to bear. Mr Shore was well known to the Presbyterians ei Stratford, he having occupied the position of Moderator during the late vacancy in St. Andrew’s, and having also occupied the pulpit and attended church social functions on many pre- ,
vious occasions. r .i o iiis widow and two children much 'sympathy will if* extended. The Mr Madid referred Co in the telegram is, we understand, a brother of the Rev. .1, Dawson C. Mad ill, of Stratford.
