BAYLY MEMORIAL SPORTS.
H. TRISTRAM (STRATFORD) WINNER. The spurts in connection with the liayly Memorial Scholarship were hold on Saturday on the New Plymouth High School grounds in beautiful weather. The grounds were in perfect order, and complete arrangements for the success of the sports had been made by Mr W. dll Moves, Principal of the school, and ills stall'. It is to be regretted (reports the Taranaki Daily Nows) that the number of entries were so small, only two schools —Stratford and New Plymouth High School—being represented by a total
of seven Uoys. The conditions attaching to the Scholarship are:—Ago limit 13, with easy standards, over a few athletic events, combined with
the marks obtained at junior nat-i ional scholarship examination. The competition should have brought tint, scholarship within range of numerous, lads, and an entry of at least thirty I lads from the schools within the Taranaki Education District might reasonably have been expected. It is hoped to infuse more interest next year into the scholarship, which was
instituted in memory of one oi the finest athletes that Taranaki ever produced. On the whole, the per-
formances wore disappointing, only three of the Unis gaining the total of 80 points necessary to quality in athletics. The kicking was of a very mediocre order. The following lads competed;—H.
