SHOW DAY TRAFFIC.
[To Thh Editor Stratford Pobt.l Sir,—Regarding traffic on the recent Show days -n Stratford, 29th and 30th November, i landed from the New Plymouth express on the 29th and heard of the accident to my grandson Ce; il burgess, and on the 30th attended the Show for about It hours. Now, Sir, I may say 1 have not seen such reckless driving ot motor cars as witness from 10 u.ni. to 6.30 p.m. on the 30th, People’s Day. The only wonder to me is that more accidents did not occur. As it was it is bad enough. The Mountain Road and Broadway was a veritable motor railway, going pell-mell all the time, and the danger dame by trying to
pass and outrun another car or vehicle. Apparently there was only one policeman at the corner of Mountain Road and Flint Rond so that J vehicles had to pass in on one side! of him and out on the other and, | poor fellow, 1 did pity him for he was covered with dust like the road. ’1 he railway people did their duty by placing a man at the crossing. I con- 1 sider the Borough Council was to; blame. Such running would not he the various street crossings to protect' the public, especially children, unless they had handed their authority over to the police; if so the latter are to blame. Such riming would not be allowed at such speed as I witnessed in but few of our boroughs or on many highways. Trusting you will insert this in your valuable space.—l am, etc., ex-Stratford resident.
E. BURGESS
