DOMINION NEWS.

DAYLIGHT SAVING.

(Per Press Association). Gisborne, December 6,

The people of the Gisborne district have lately been canvassed for support, for a project having as its object daylight saving by putting the clock on one hour from November to March each year, without reference to what the rest of the Dominion may do. The proposal, which originated with the School Committee’s Association, has received the general support of sports bodies, public societies, etc., and has been affirmed by the Borough Council, and steps are to be taken to set it in motion, if -die Government raises no insuperable barriers. It is contended that Gisborne’s isolated position and climate render the district peculiarly suitable for the experiment. Alternation of clocks here would not affect the rest of the Dominion.

The Labor Department has now’ advised the Gisborne Borough Council that it will place no obstacles in the way of the proposal to bring 'the scheme into operation on January 1, and the Council advertises jts intention to do so. No objections have so far been made.
