CARDIFF NOTES.
[from our own correspondent.]
An accident attended with rather serious consequences happened on Wednesday morning at Cardiff through -Mr H. Crawford’s express team holtig while attached to the vehicle. Mr and Mrs Crawford had just alighted from the express, and while the former was opening up his store, a young horse in the team took flight and the pair bolted down the Cardiff Road and up the Climie Road for a short distance, coming to grief some distance past Mr Roger’s dwelling and just missing running over Mr Crossley at the corner. The pole, harness and wheels of the vehicle were damaged and one of the horses (a valuable animal) broke its leg, necessitating its destruction. Mr Crawford has been exceedingly unfortunate having lost two horses and had two vehicles damaged during the past few days. Lance-Corporal Belcher left with the 20th. His brother, who was severely wounded during the “push,” is having serious difficulty in recovering the use of his limbs in spite of undergoing several operations. At the School Committee meeting on Monday, it was decided to hold the usual concert and give prizes at the breaking-up of the school for the Christmas holidays, but the picnic will be postponed until early in the next year owing to the proximity of Christmas Day and the excess of farm work at this season.
