The Stratford Cup, of It miles, which this year is worth oOOsovs., attracted no less than twen-ty-three nominations, among which are several well-known performers along the Coast and at the metropolitan meetings. Soldier, Te Papa pa and Munster, to mention throe, hail from Auckland, and, besides, there are Monln (Waverley Cup winner), Rewi Poto, Square Deal, Maniaroa (yesterday’s AVoodville Handicap winner'), Toa Tere (after a tri,p to Australia), Antwerp, Crawford (the evergreen) and other household names among racing men. The Douglas Handicap, also a lirst-day event, claims Astor, Veto, Tree Lucerne, Zetes, Tirana, Lord Lupin, Hushman and Co., who may be depended upon to cut out the six furlongs in slick
turn*. In tin* big .six furlong event on the second day, the Ngaere Handicap (200sovs.) in addition to those mentioned above are Peroneal and Te Papapa. The Malone Memorial Handicap, which has been increased to ;«)(» so vs., has drawn the great list of twenty-eight, an increase of two over last year’s crowd. All the best jof the nominations for the opening day appear again, and this seven furlong race must be very hard to pick. The minor events throughout have drawn excellently, the Railway Haudicaip on the first day accounting for 31 and the County Hack on the second day registering no less than 36.
