The revised estimates submitted to the Federal Treasurer show a decrease in ilio revenue of £1,760,000 and a decrease in the expmliture of £2,-12-1,000 or a net saving of £663,000 compared to tho estimates of the previous treasurer. , The war, loans are exempted, and a wealth tax. suggested with a sinking fund of one per rent., which, accumulated at four and a-lialf per cent. interest, was estimated to extinguish the war debt in thirty-nine years. Tile Treasurer strongly urged the necessity of economy. Australia had passed through a phenomenal decade -pf prosperity. From £38,286,000 in 1906, the saving hanks deposits increased to £06,281,000 in 1916.
