Auckland, December I. hi the Police Court, Thomas Wallace, of the Public Works Depatf. nieiit, foreman, was charged that between March and November last he stole certain moneys of the Department amounting to £'l27 ; there were also four charges of forgery of names on receipts acknowledging payment of wages to workmen. It was admitted that owing to the Department being shovthanded accused had a large amount of extra work, much of which should have been done by an accountant.
