APPROACH OF THE ENEMY.

In view of the fall of Kimpolung, and General von Mackensen’s continued advance, experts are less optimistic as to the chance of saving Bucharest. It is unlikely that heavy long-range guns have yet reached the vicinity, but the German advance guards are within 18 miles of the capital.
General Brialmont planned the Bucharest forts to resemble those of Antwerp. They are based on belts, the forts surrounding an inner circle, with advanced defence works of steel, protected by cupolas of mobile armored towers, armed with guns, which can easily be brought to bear' on 1 threatened points as aj whole. The circle of fortifications is connected by railways. All the armor and guns, were obtained from Krupps. The defence of the fortress will require at least 100,000 men. FIGHTING IN BUKOWINA. ON THE MOLDAVIAN FRONTIER. London, November 30. ■ A Russian communique states : —ln the wooded Carpathians we took possession of the Rukada height. A battle is proceeding on the heights east of Kirlibaba, the latter being under our fire. The enemy occupied Roman, 17 miles south-south-east. A German communique’ states: —In the wooded Carpathians, in the frontier of Modavia, the Russians continued attack, and gained some advantages. The report claims that the fall of ... Kimpolung in Roumania opens the way across the Toerzburger Pass, and that the Germans captured 1217 men and seven guns at Kimpolung. BUCHAREST BOMBED. ENEMY ADVANCE IN FORCE.

The Daily Chronicle’s correspondent at Bucharest states that aeroplanes on Thursday twice daringly bomhed Bucharest, killing several people. A large force attacked in the Jitil Valley, and the Roumanians retreated southwards to Targujia, reaching Filiashi. The snowfall has ceased, and the weather is singularly fine, which is advantageous to the enemy’s advance on the northern frontiers. A BULGARIAN CLAIM. MASSES OF RUSSIANS ON THE OFFENSIVE. (Received 11.5 a.m.) London, December 1. A Bulgarian communique claims to have defeated the Roumanians in bayonet fighting between Giurgevo and Bucharest. An Austrian communique speaks of great masses of Russians constantly attacking between the XJz Valley and the Tarmar Pass for the relief of the harassed Roumanians. The repoit admits a slight Russian success. RUSSIANS DO THEIR BIT. SUCCESS ON FRONTIER HEIGHTS.
OCCUPATION OF WHOLE RANGE.
(Received 11.5 a.m.) London, December 1. A Russian communique reports a successful offensive along the whole of the Roumanian frontier south of Kirlibaba, where the Russians, despite powerful artillery ing and violent counter-attacks, occupied the whole jange of heights.
