I Karl von Weigand, correspondent of the New York Times, cabling from Vienna, says Franz Josef often expressed tlie hope'to live to see peace. The Emperor Charles considers the I fulfilment of the Emperor’s desire for an early peace as his first and highest task. Many of Ids subjects regard the new ruler as a favourable factor towards peace. The Austrian press features the reports of the peace efforts being made j abroad. Officials consider that only I President Wilson can intervene with I any hope of success.
