TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.

(By "Cicero.")

The Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring meeting opens to-morrow. The class of horses engaged are not good, and does not give promise of guiding one for the big Ellerslie meeting. The Taranaki-owned Depredation will start a hot order in the chief event, in which he will be ridden by Deeley. The Campfire colt is small, but 8.7 may not trouble him over 1-} miles. The field is remarkably poor. Of the moderates in the Maiden Handicap, Cardrona and Erroneous appear the best. Unlike former years, the Borough field is very weak, Tinoreka and Tatterley may have most friends. A largo field figure in the Ponui Hurdles, U|ster and Con are nicely han[dicappid. Depredation and Royal ilrish read well in the St. Andrew's I Handicap, whilst Penthesilea and I Malaga may be in the money for the Cambria Handicap. Xo less than twenty were accepted for in the Melrose Handicap. Homeric is reported as fast, and appears to be well-placed. .Tararua Jack, if fancied by his party, .should have a rare chance in the Tiri Hurdles, and Tinopai or "Waiutu may ,be the choice in the Cheltenham Handicap.
