Mr and Mrs P. R. Stewart will be tendered a farewell social in St. Jtndretf's Hall this evening. A Paris cable stites that Emile Friol, the world's champion sprint cyclist, was killed while carrying despatches. Mr J. B. Richards,, who has held the position of D.O.A for the Stratford district for the past eighteen months, has resigned. The Rev. L. Hanie, vicar of Inglewood, has gained the L.T.H., a diploma awarded on the completion of a theological cours?. The death is announced by cable from London of Henry K. Sienkiewicz, author of "Quo Yadis," while in Switzerland, from heart- failure, at the age of 69. A message has been received by Mrs Hine, of Toko, stating that Ca}>tain J. B. Hine has completed another stage in his journey and is in good health. Lieutenant L. Buchler, formerly of the Stratford school staff, writing a cheery letter from the front, stated that the driest place he could find was a disabled tank. He was well, and had been in a good many exposures since he left Stratford. A London correspondent, writing on October 6, says that Major P. H. Lampen had to relinquish the appointment of brigade-major owing to sickness. He was in Walton Hospital for some time, but has now been discharged for duty. Major Frank Hume was doing duty at Sling Camp. Regimental Q.M.-Sergeant A. C. King, of the 22nd Reinforcements, and stationed at Trentham, is spending a few days in Stratford. This officer, who is a son of Mr N. J. King, was formerly with Messrs Wright and Lawrence, Stratford, and is well-known in the town and district. So far, Q.M.-Sergeant King is enamoured with his military life and is fit and well.
