The miners' representatives repeated their demands, declaring they were locked out. The proprietors said a precedent to settlement was that all men should resume work at the same time. After a lengthy discussion, Mr Hughes proposed that the men should be recommended to resume work immediately, on condition that the Arbitration Court, or a special tribunal, should hear the case the same as if work were resumed on Monday. The conference adjourned until to-morrow to consider tlie proposal.
