YORK ROAD NOTES.

1 SUCCESSFUL. SCHOOL CONCERT. | [from our own correspondent.]

| The school concei t was held on Friday night, the weather being hue, and the house packed. The school teach- | ers (.Miss Strachan and Miss Eason) 1 again had the children so well trained I that they went through the whole programme without a mistake. York Road people should be proud of having two such line teachers. Tin) Misses Eichstcadl opened the conceit wifh an overture, and were billowed by the school children in a song “British Everyone,” which was sung very nicely. children’s recitation “Kitty’s Number Lesson,” was very interesting. The boys’ song, “We are Little Soldiers,” was very good, and was encored. The girls then danced j the Highland Schottische, which showed excellent training. Mrs Rateman then obliged the audience witn a recitation, which was given in good form, and was encored. Two little children then recited “A Poor Rule.” A dialogue by the children was very successful. Miss Newstroski suitably played a pianoforte solo. The school 'girls sang “Christmas Stocking” in very line style. A recitation, “A Gentleman,” by the children, again showed ftnc training. Two songs by the girls “Sunbeams and Shadow” and “A Disappointed Hen,’ 1 were very well sung. Mrs Bateman again recited in line style, and was encored. Iho school girls’ song. “Hold the Right Hand Up,” was splendid. Mr Rudkin, with his tine voice, sang “Hero we are Again,” several joining in the chorus, and an encore was the result. The school girls than sang two songs, “Everybody’s Bed Time” and “Spinning Fairy,” with wonderful success. Mr Rudkin, who is always sure of a good hearing, again sang a song that suited him well. The hildren’sc dialogue, “Mr Flutter,”' would take a lot of beating. Mrs Rudkin’s song, “Good-bye Girlie, I Must Go,” was greatly appreciated by all. and was encored. Mr Jamieson’s song kept the audience in perfect order. The Tariki

Ulce again put in tneir appearance, being very interesting. Tlie school girls perfectly danced the Lancers In costume. Mr Jones’ song was well received. Mr Volktze gave a very good reading, and was encored. After a long and good programme, Mr Rudkin. with his Tariki friends, put on a dialogue thht (kept thpjjipgse : iii laughter. This concluded the concert, after which supper was handed round,,and the room was cleared for dancing. Miss Andihftoa supplied the dance music in 'perfect style. Mr Volktze officiated as chairman of the concert, and Mr Dombroski as M.C. for the dance.
