THE ZEPPELIN LIARS.

1 The Christchurch Press in a recent issue remarks: We had a note recently upon the fantastic stories which the Germans circulate about the destruction wrought by the Zeppelins. This extravagance of invention is not altogether foolish, because while it is swallowed whole by the German people, neutrals are quite likely to calculate that the truth lies somewhere midway between the English and German official reports. America, fortu- ' nately, is now in a position to gpt 1 nearer the truth than that. They

might suspect the British official re-

ports, but they have no reason to doubt the truth of Mr Samuel McClure’s recently expressed statement. Mr McClure examined and compared the English and German versions of the Zeppelin raids, and he concluded with this clear and emphatic judgment: “One is absolutely astonished at the insignificance of the damage t done by the Zeppelin raiders. I have made a thorough investigation of this matter. Comparing the British and German communiques and personally visiting places where Zeppelin bombs have been dropped. I can only say that' the British communiques seem to me. to be strictly accurate, and the German ones utterly incomprehensible.”
