At tbe Intermediate Examination of Medical Students at the Otago (adversity, only eight out of sixty-eight candidates succeeded in passing the four subjects set, while three succeeded in passing in three subjects. Two old Stratford schoolboys sat for tins examination, and both did well. Master Cecil Wright succeeding in getting tiie full pass, and Master H. Mail (Midhirst.) in getting three subjects. We arc always glad to chronicle the success of Stratford hoys, and con gr a tula te M asters W right and Mail at doing so well at what was evidently a very severe examination.

There is one truly loyal and patriotic soul at Manga-weka in the person of llie proprietress of the railway refreshwent rooms there. Quite recently a representative of the 'Paten Press was passing through when six stalwart hovs iu khaki walked up to the refreshment counter ami aslu-d for some tea. A piled up plate of sandwiches ami a large tin of biscuits were placed before them together w ith a huge teapot and the necessary cups and saucers with the words, ‘'Help yout, selves.’' Tin- lads forthwith Helped themselves, and enjoyed a hearty meal. Just before the guard called ‘Seats please,’ one of the boys book a pound note out of his pocket and handed it to the-'(proprietress who returned it with a smile and the, words, “Don’t you know 1 never take anything from you hoys in khaki. You boys are doing more for os all than we can ever repay.” The “Press” representative raised his hat and felt that Mangaweka had one citizen it could well afford to he proud of. Particulars of T. I, Lamasou’s Mart sale- on Saturday appear in another column.
